✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ fought Muharib Khasafah at Nakhl, and they saw an opportunity against the Muslims. A man from them called 'Awf b. al-Harith or Ghawrath b. al-Harith came and stood over the head of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a sword and said, 'Who will protect you from me?' He said, 'Allah.' Then the sword fell from his hand, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ took the sword and said to him, 'Who will protect you from me?' He said, 'Be better than me.' He said, 'Will you testify that there is no god but Allah?' He said, 'No, but I will make a pact with you that I will not fight you and will not be with a people who fight you.' So he let him go. He went back to his companions and said, 'I have come to you from the best of people.' When it was noon or afternoon—Abu 'Awanah was unsure—the Prophet ﷺ ordered the prayer of fear. The people were two groups: one group facing the enemy and one group praying with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He prayed two rak'ahs with the group that was with him, then they left and took the place of the others, and the others came and prayed two rak'ahs with the Prophet ﷺ. Thus the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had four rak'ahs and the people had two rak'ahs.
