أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْقُرَشِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ زَبْرٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ مُسْلِمَ بْنَ مِشْكَمٍ أَبَا عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو ثَعْلَبَةَ الْخُشَنِيُّ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّاسُ إِذَا نَزَلُوا مَنْزِلًا تَفَرَّقُوا فِي الشِّعَابِ وَالْأَوْدِيَةِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ تَفَرُّقَكُمْ فِي هَذِهِ الشِّعَابِ وَالْأَوْدِيَةِ إِنَّمَا ذَلِكُمْ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ» قَالَ فَلَمْ يَنْزِلُوا بَعْدُ مَنْزِلًا إِلَّا انْضَمَّ بَعْضُهُمْ إِلَى بَعْضٍ حَتَّى لَوْ بُسِطَ عَلَيْهِمْ ثَوْبٌ لَعَمَّهُمْ

✧ When the people camped at a place, they would scatter in the mountain passes and valleys. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Your scattering in these mountain passes and valleys is only from Satan.” He said: After that, they never camped at a place except that they gathered close to one another until if a cloth were spread over them, it would cover them all.
