Night Prayer

أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ

«مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ ذَكَرٍ وَلَا أُنْثَى يَنَامُ إِلَّا وَعَلَيْهِ جَرِيرٌ مَعْقُودٌ فَإِنِ اسْتَيْقَظَ فَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ انْحَلَّتْ عُقْدَةٌ وَإِنْ هُوَ تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ أَصْبَحَ نَشِيطًا قَدْ أَصَابَ خَيْرًا وَقَدِ انْحَلَّتْ عُقَدُهُ كُلُّهَا وَإِنْ أَصْبَحَ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ اللَّهَ أَصْبَحَ وَعُقَدُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَأَصْبَحَ ثَقِيلًا كَسْلَانًا لَمْ يُصِبْ خَيْرًا»

Translation

✧ “There is no Muslim, male or female, who sleeps except that there is a tied rope upon him. If he wakes up and remembers Allah, one knot is undone. If he performs ablution then stands for prayer, he enters the morning energetic, having attained good, and all his knots are undone. But if he enters the morning without remembering Allah, he enters the morning with his knots upon him, heavy, lazy, and having attained no good.”
