✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque, and the people prayed. In the morning, the people talked about that, so the people increased. He came out to them the second night and prayed, and they prayed by his prayer. In the morning, they talked about that, so the people increased. He came out on the third night and prayed, and they prayed by his prayer. In the morning, the people talked about that, so the people increased until the mosque could not hold its people. He did not come out to them, and the people began saying, "The prayer." He did not come out to them until he came out for the dawn prayer. When he finished the dawn prayer, he turned to the people, pronounced the testimony of faith, and said: "To proceed: your affair was not hidden from me last night, but I feared that the night prayer would be made obligatory upon you and you would be unable to do that." He encouraged them to stand in Ramadan without commanding them with a firm command, saying, "Whoever stands on Laylat al-Qadr out of faith and seeking reward, Allah will forgive him his previous sins." He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away while the matter was on that. Then likewise it was during the caliphate of Abu Bakr and the early period of the caliphate of 'Umar, until 'Umar b. al-Khattab gathered them behind Ubayy b. Ka'b, and he led them in Ramadan. That was the first gathering of the people behind one reciter in Ramadan.
