أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى حَدَّثَنَا عُقْبَةُ بْنُ مُكْرَمٍ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ بُرْقَانَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ وَعُرْوَةَ ابْنَيِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِمَا الْمُغِيرَةِ قَالَ
تَبَرَّزَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ جَاءَ فَأَفْرَغْتُ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْإِدَاوَةِ فَغَسَلَ وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ يَحْسِرُ عَنْ ذِرَاعَيْهِ فَضَاقَ كُمُّ جُبَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَهِيَ صُوفٌ رُومِيَّةٌ فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فِي فُرُوجٍ كَانَ فِي خَصْرِهَا فَغَسَلَهُمَا إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ وَمَسَحَ بِرَأْسِهِ وَمَسَحَ عَلَى خُفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ وَأَنَا مَعَهُ فَوَجَدَ النَّاسَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي الصَّفِّ وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ يَؤُمُّهُمْ فَأَدْرَكْنَاهُ وَقَدْ صَلَّى رَكْعَةً فَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الثَّانِيَةَ فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَأَتَمَّ صَلَاتَهُ فَفَزِعَ النَّاسُ لِذَلِكَ فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَاتَهُ قَالَ «قَدْ أَصَبْتُمْ وَأَحْسَنْتُمْ إِذَا احْتَبَسَ إِمَامُكُمْ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَدِّمُوا رَجُلًا يَؤُمُّكُمْ»

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to relieve himself, then came. I poured water from the vessel for him, and he washed his face. Then he went to uncover his forearms, but the sleeve of the Messenger of Allah's ﷺ jubba—a Roman woolen one—was tight, so he inserted his hand through a slit at its waist and washed them up to the elbows. He wiped his head and wiped over his leather socks. Then he came forward while I was with him and found the people at prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood in the row while 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf was leading them. We caught up with them when he had already prayed one rak'ah, so we prayed with 'Abd al-Rahman the second one. When he said the salutation, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up and completed his prayer. The people were startled at that. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished his prayer, he said, "You have done right and well. When your imam is detained and the prayer has arrived, put forward a man to lead you."
