✧ When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from the battle of Hunayn, he traveled through the night until sleepiness overtook him, and he halted for rest. He said to Bilāl, ‘Watch the night for us.’ Bilāl prayed as much as was decreed for him, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions slept. When dawn approached, Bilāl leaned against his mount facing the dawn, but sleep overcame Bilāl as he leaned against his mount. Neither the Messenger of Allah ﷺ nor Bilāl nor any of his companions woke until the sun struck them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was the first to wake, and he was startled. He said, ‘O Bilāl!’ Bilāl said, ‘May my father be your ransom, O Messenger of Allah, the same thing seized me as seized you.’ He said, ‘Lead your mounts.’ Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed ablution, ordered Bilāl, and he called the iqāmah. He said, ‘Whoever forgets a prayer or sleeps through it, let him pray it when he remembers it, for Allah, blessed and exalted, said: {Establish prayer for My remembrance}.’
