✧ I heard Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi among ten of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, one of them being Abu Qatadah. Abu Humayd said, 'I am the most knowledgeable among you concerning the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' They said to him, 'Why? By Allah, you were not the most frequent of us in following him, nor the earliest of us in his companionship.' He said, 'Yes, I was.' They said, 'Then describe it.' He said, 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood for prayer, he said takbir and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, and every bone settled in its position, straight. Then he recited. Then he said takbir and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, and bowed and placed his palms on his knees. Then he stood straight, not lowering his head nor raising it. Then he raised his head and said, "Allah hears those who praise Him," and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, straight. Then he said, "Allahu Akbar," then went down to the ground and kept his hands away from his sides. Then he raised his head and folded his left leg and sat on it, and spread the toes of his feet when he prostrated. Then he returned and prostrated, and raised his head and said, "Allahu Akbar," and folded his left leg and sat on it until every bone returned to its position, straight. Then he did in the other rak'ah the same. When he stood up from the two rak'ahs, he said takbir and raised his hands until they were level with his shoulders, just as he did at the beginning of the prayer. Then he did the same in the rest of his prayer, until when it was the sitting of the prostration in which there is the taslim, he moved his left leg back and sat mutawarrikan on his left side.' They all said, 'This is how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray.'
