✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered a tent of hair, and it was pitched for him at Namirah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ traveled, and Quraysh did not doubt that he would stand at al-Mashʿar al-Ḥarām as Quraysh used to do in the Jāhiliyyah. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed on until he came to ʿArafah and found the tent pitched for him at Namirah, so he stopped there. When the sun declined, he ordered al-Qaṣwāʾ, and it was saddled for him. He came to the middle of the valley and addressed the people, then said: “Your blood and your wealth are forbidden to you like the sanctity of this day of yours, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. Indeed, every matter of the Jāhiliyyah is placed beneath my feet, and the blood of the Jāhiliyyah is abolished. The first blood I abolish from our own blood is the blood of Ibn Rabīʿah b. al-Ḥārith, who was being nursed among Banū Layth and was killed by Hudhayl. Fear Allah concerning women, for you have taken them by Allah's trust and made their private parts lawful by Allah's word. You owe it to them not to let anyone you dislike tread on your beds; if they do that, then strike them with a blow that is not severe. And they owe you their provision and clothing with kindness. I have left among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah. You will be asked about me, so what will you say?” They said: “We bear witness that you have conveyed, fulfilled, and advised.” Then he raised his index finger to the sky and pointed it at the people, saying: “O Allah, bear witness,” three times. Then he called the adhān, then the iqāmah, and prayed ẓuhr; then he called the iqāmah and prayed ʿaṣr, and he did not pray anything between them.
