✧ The Jews, when a woman among them menstruated, they would turn her out of the houses, and they would not eat with her, nor drink with her, nor have intercourse with her in the houses. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about that, and Allah, mighty and sublime, revealed: 'They ask you about menstruation. Say: It is harm, so keep away from wives during menstruation' [al-Baqarah 2:222]. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do everything except intercourse.' The Jews said: 'We do not see this man leaving anything of our affair but he contradicts us.' Usayd b. Hudayr and 'Abbad b. Bishr came and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the Jews say such and such. Shall we not have intercourse with them during menstruation?' He said: The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed so much that I thought he had become angry with them. They left, and a gift of milk came to him. He sent after them, and we thought that he had not been angry with them, and he gave them to drink.
