✧ Umm Habibah bt. Jahsh, the wife of Abd al-Rahman b. Awf, experienced istihadah for seven years. She sought the ruling of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ concerning that, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "This is not menstruation, but rather it is a vein, so perform ghusl and pray." Aishah said: "She used to perform ghusl at every prayer in a washtub in the room of her sister Zaynab bt. Jahsh, until the redness of the blood rose above the water."

machine translationThere is much disagreement among the narrators from al-Zuhrī regarding this hadith. At times he narrates it from ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah, at times from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, and at times from ʿUrwah from Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. Most of the students of Ibn Shihāb say in it: from ʿUrwah and ʿAmrah from ʿĀʾishah, that Umm Ḥabībah bint Jaḥsh, the in-law of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who was married to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. ʿAwf, had irregular bleeding (istuḥīḍat). This is how they report it from Ibn Shihāb in this hadith: Umm Ḥabībah, without mentioning Fāṭimah bint Abī Ḥubaysh. The hadith of Ibn Shihāb on this subject is inconsistent (muḍṭarib).
