✧ I asked ʿUrwah about the one who has intercourse but does not ejaculate. He said: People must follow the most recent practice, and the most recent is from the command of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. ʿĀʾishah told me: «The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to do that and not perform ghusl, and that was before the conquest of Makkah. Then he performed ghusl after that and commanded the people to perform ghusl.»

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

machine translation"This wording is not known to be preserved except in this hadith."

machine translationIbn Ḥibbān ruled this hadith to be authentic (ṣaḥīḥ), except that al-Ḥusayn b. ʿImrān often brings objectionable reports (manākīr) from al-Zuhrī, and more than one of the scholars of hadith have declared him weak (ḍaʿīf). So the hadith in this wording has its problems, but it is good (ḥasan) and sound as supporting evidence.

machine translationHe found it defective because of al-Ḥusayn b. ʿImrān and said: "His hadith is not corroborated, and this wording from ʿĀʾishah is not known except in this hadith."

  • Maghlaṭay

machine translationA hadith that is not to be used as proof because of the weakness (ḍaʿf) of its narrator al-Ḥusayn b. ʿImrān. In sum, however, it is a good (ḥasan) and sound hadith in the chapter of citing evidence for abrogation (naskh).

  • al-Bukhari

machine translation"His hadith is not corroborated." Then he mentioned this hadith, meaning al-Ḥusayn b. ʿImrān.
