أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

أَنَّ أُمَّ سُلَيْمٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّةَ وَهِيَ أُمُّ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَسْتَحْيِي مِنَ الْحَقِّ هَلْ عَلَى الْمَرْأَةِ مِنْ غُسْلٍ إِذَا رَأَتِ الْمَاءَ فِي النَّوْمِ مَا يَرَى الرَّجُلُ أَتَغْتَسِلُ أَمْ لَا؟ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «تَغْتَسِلُ» فَقَالَتْ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلْتُ عَلَيْهَا فَقُلْتُ أُفٍّ لَكِ وَهَلْ تَرَى ذَلِكَ الْمَرْأَةُ؟ قَالَتْ فَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَالَ « تَرِبَتْ يَمِينُكِ فَمِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ؟ »

✧ Umm Sulaym al-Ansariyya, the mother of Anas b. Malik, said: O Messenger of Allah, Allah is not shy of the truth. Is bathing obligatory upon a woman when she sees in her sleep what a man sees? Should she bathe or not? The Prophet ﷺ said: “She should bathe.” The wife of the Prophet ﷺ said: I turned to her and said: Uff to you! Does a woman see that? She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to her and said: “May your right hand be in the dust! How then does resemblance occur?”

    يرويه هشام بن عروة واختلف عنه فرواه مالك بن أنس في الموطأ عن هشام عن أبيه عن زينب عن أم سلمة إلا أن القعنبي لم يذكر فيه عن أم سلمة ورواه يحيى بن عبد الله بن سالم ويحيى بن سعيد القطان وابن جريج ومحمد بن بشر وليث بن سعد وابن هشام بن عروة عن هشام عن أبيه عن زينب عن أم سلمة وكذلك رواه أبو الزناد عن عروة عن زينب عن أم سلمة ورواه عيسى بن يونس عن هشام عن أبيه عن زينب ولم يذكر فيه أم سلمة ورواه جرير بن عبد الحميد والضحاك بن عثمان عن هشام عن أبيه عن أم سلمة لم يذكرا زينبا ورواه الزهري عن عروة عن زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ولم يسمها ولا ذكر زينبا والصحيح قول من قال عن عروة عن زينب عن أم سلمة

    machine translationHishām b. ʿUrwah narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Mālik b. Anas narrated it in al-Muwaṭṭaʾ from Hishām, from his father, from Zaynab, from Umm Salamah, except that al-Qaʿnabī did not mention Umm Salamah in it. Yaḥyā b. ʿAbdullāh b. Sālim, Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, Ibn Jurayj, Muḥammad b. Bishr, Layth b. Saʿd, and the son of Hishām b. ʿUrwah narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from Zaynab, from Umm Salamah. Likewise Abū al-Zinād narrated it from ʿUrwah, from Zaynab, from Umm Salamah. ʿĪsā b. Yūnus narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from Zaynab, and did not mention Umm Salamah in it. Jarīr b. ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd and al-Ḍaḥḥāk b. ʿUthmān narrated it from Hishām, from his father, from Umm Salamah, and did not mention Zaynab. Al-Zuhrī narrated it from ʿUrwah, from a wife of the Prophet ﷺ, without naming her and without mentioning Zaynab. The correct view is that of those who said: from ʿUrwah, from Zaynab, from Umm Salamah.
