✧ A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allah, I saw in a dream last night a canopy dripping with ghee and honey, and the people were taking from it with their hands; then you ascended, and a man after you took it and ascended, then another man took it and ascended, then another man took it and it broke, then it was mended for him and he ascended.” Abū Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allah, may my father be your ransom, by Allah, let me interpret it.” The Prophet ﷺ said, “Interpret it.” Abū Bakr said, “As for the canopy, it is the canopy of Islam. As for what drips from it of ghee and honey, that is the Qur’an—its sweetness and its softness. As for what the people take from that, it is the one who takes much and the one who takes little. As for the rope extending from heaven to earth, it is the truth upon which you are; you took it and Allah raised you. Then a man after you will take it and rise by it; then another man will take it and rise by it; then another man will take it and it will break, then it will be mended for him and he will rise. So tell me, O Messenger of Allah, may my father be your ransom, have I hit the mark or missed?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “You have hit some and missed some.” He said, “By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, you must tell me where I missed.” He said, “Do not swear.”
