حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ فُضَيْلٍ، عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ، عَنْ شَهْرِ بْنِ حَوْشَبٍ، عَنْ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ قَالَ:
يُلْقَى عَلَى أَهْلِ النَّارِ الْجُوعُ حَتَّى يَعْدِلَ عِنْدَهُمْ مَا هُمْ فِيهِ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ، قَالَ: فَيَسْتَغِيثُونَ فَيُغَاثُونَ بِالضَّرِيعِ ﴿لا يُسْمِنُ وَلا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ ﴾، فَيَسْتَغِيثُونَ فَيُغَاثُونَ بِطَعَامٍ ذِي غُصَّةٍ، فَيَذْكُرُونَ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُجِيزُونَ الْغُصَصَ بِالشَّرَابِ، فَيَسْتَغِيثُونَ فَيُغَاثُونَ بِمَاءٍ مِنْ حَمِيمٍ فِي كَلَالِيبَ مِنْ حَدِيدٍ، فَإِذَا أَدْنَوْهُ إِلَى وُجُوهِهِمْ شَوَى وُجُوهَهُمْ، فَإِذَا أَدْخَلُوهُ بُطُونَهُمْ قَطَّعَ مَا فِي بُطُونِهِمْ، قَالَ: فَيُنَادُونَ: ﴿ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ يُخَفِّفْ عَنَّا يَوْمًا مِنَ الْعَذَابِ ﴾، قَالَ: فَيُجَابُونَ: ﴿أَوَ لَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالُوا فَادْعُوا وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ إِلا فِي ضَلالٍ ﴾قَالَ: فَيَقُولُونَ: نَادُوا مَالِكًا، قَالَ: فَيُنَادُونَ: ﴿يَا مَالِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ ﴾قَالَ: فَأَجَابَهُمْ: ﴿إِنَّكُمْ مَاكِثُونَ ﴾قَالَ: فَيَقُولُونَ: ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ، فَلَا شَيْءَ أَرْحَمُ بِكُمْ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ، قَالَ: فَيَقُولُونَ: ﴿رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ ﴾قَالَ: فَيُجِيبُهُمُ ﴿اخْسَئُوا فِيهَا وَلا تُكَلِّمُون ﴾قَالَ: فَعِنْدَ ذَلِكَ يَئِسُوا مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ، وَيَأْخُذُونَ فِي الْوَيْلِ وَالشَّهِيقِ وَالثُّبُورِ

Hunger will be cast upon the people of the Fire until it equals, in their eyes, the punishment they are in. He said: So they cry for help, and they are given help with the thorny plant (ḍarīʿ) ﴿لا يُسْمِنُ وَلا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ﴾. So they cry for help, and they are given help with food that chokes. Then they remember that in the world they used to pass choking food down with drink. So they cry for help, and they are given help with boiling water in iron hooks. When they bring it near their faces, it scorches their faces, and when it enters their bellies, it cuts up what is in their bellies. He said: So they call out: ﴿ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ يُخَفِّفْ عَنَّا يَوْمًا مِنَ الْعَذَابِ﴾. He said: They are answered: ﴿أَوَ لَمْ تَكُ تَأْتِيكُمْ رُسُلُكُمْ بِالْبَيِّنَاتِ قَالُوا بَلَى قَالُوا فَادْعُوا وَمَا دُعَاءُ الْكَافِرِينَ إِلا فِي ضَلالٍ﴾. He said: Then they say: Call Mālik. He said: So they call out: ﴿يَا مَالِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ﴾. He said: He answers them: ﴿إِنَّكُمْ مَاكِثُونَ﴾. He said: Then they say: Call your Lord, for nothing is more merciful to you than your Lord. He said: So they say: ﴿رَبَّنَا أَخْرِجْنَا مِنْهَا فَإِنْ عُدْنَا فَإِنَّا ظَالِمُونَ﴾. He said: He answers them: ﴿اخْسَئُوا فِيهَا وَلا تُكَلِّمُونِ﴾. He said: At that point they despair of every good, and they begin wailing, sobbing, and crying out for destruction.
