Translation
✧ [The young men concerning whom was revealed: "Indeed, those whom the angels take in death while wronging themselves"] And the young men who were killed at Badr, and concerning whom was revealed from the Qur'an, as it has been related to us: "Indeed, those whom the angels take in death while wronging themselves, they say, 'In what condition were you?' They say, 'We were oppressed in the land.' They say, 'Was not the earth of Allah spacious so that you could emigrate therein?' For those, their refuge is Hell, and evil it is as a destination"—they were young Muslim men from Banū Asad b. ʿAbd al-ʿUzzā b. Quṣayy: al-Ḥārith b. Zamaʿa b. al-Aswad b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib b. Asad. And from Banū Makhzūm: Abū Qays b. al-Fākih b. al-Mughīra b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar b. Makhzūm, and Abū Qays b. al-Walīd b. al-Mughīra b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿUmar b. Makhzūm. And from Banū Jumaḥ: ʿAlī b. Umayya b. Khalaf b. Wahb b. Ḥudhāfa b. Jumaḥ. And from Banū Sahm: al-ʿĀṣ b. Munabbih b. al-Ḥajjāj b. ʿĀmir b. Ḥudhayfa b. Saʿd b. Sahm. That is because they had embraced Islam while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was in Makkah, but when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ emigrated to Madinah, their fathers and clans detained them in Makkah and persecuted them, and they succumbed to persecution. Then they marched with their people to Badr and were all killed there.
