Some matters that occurred between the Messenger ﷺ and the Jews, Christians, and hypocrites in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah
[ سُؤَالُهُمْ عَنْ قِيَامِ السَّاعَةِ ] وَقَالَ جَبَلُ بْنُ أَبِي قُشَيْرٍ، وَشَمْويِلُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ، أَخْبِرْنَا، مَتَى تَقُومُ السَّاعَةُ إنْ كُنْتَ نَبِيًّا كَمَا تَقُولُ ؟ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِيهِمَا: يَسْأَلُونَكَ عَنِ السَّاعَةِ أَيَّانَ مُرْسَاهَا قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ رَبِّي لَا يُجَلِّيهَا لِوَقْتِهَا إِلَّا هُوَ ثَقُلَتْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ لَا تَأْتِيكُمْ إِلَّا بَغْتَةً يَسْأَلُونَكَ كَأَنَّكَ حَفِيٌّ عَنْهَا قُلْ إِنَّمَا عِلْمُهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَلَكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ.
Translation
✧ [Their question about the coming of the Hour] Jabal b. Abī Qushayr and Shamwīl b. Zayd said to the Messenger of God ﷺ: “O Muhammad, tell us, when will the Hour come, if you are a prophet as you say?” So God Most High revealed concerning them: “They ask you about the Hour, when will be its anchorage? Say: its knowledge is only with my Lord; none shall disclose it at its time but He. It is heavy in the heavens and the earth; it will not come to you except suddenly. They ask you as if you are well informed about it. Say: its knowledge is only with God, but most people do not know.”
