The Prophet's emigration ﷺ

Translation

✧ [The increase in the resident prayer] In this year: an increase was made in the resident prayer—previously, both the resident and the traveling prayer had been two rakʿahs—and that was one month after the arrival of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, in Rabīʿ al-Ākhir, after twelve nights had passed. Al-Wāqidī said: The people of the Ḥijāz do not differ concerning that. On the authority of ʿUrwah, from ʿĀʾishah, she said: When prayer was first made obligatory, it was two rakʿahs; then the traveling prayer was confirmed as such, and an increase was made in the resident prayer. It was also narrated through the route of al-Shaʿbī, from Masrūq, from her. Al-Bayhaqī related from al-Ḥasan al-Baṣrī that when the resident prayer was first made obligatory, it was made obligatory as four [rakʿahs].
