The emigration to Abyssinia and what occurred therein
Translation
✧ [The joy of the emigrants at the Najāshī’s victory over his enemy] She said: By God, we were in that state when a man from Abyssinia descended upon him, disputing with him his kingship. She said: By God, I do not know that we ever grieved with any grief more intense (for us) than the grief we grieved at that, out of fear that that man might prevail over the Najāshī, and there would come a man who did not know of our rights what the Najāshī had known of them. She said: The Najāshī marched out against him, and between them was the width of the Nile. She said: The companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ said: Who is a man who will go out until he attends the battle of the people, then bring us the news? She said: Al-Zubayr b. al-ʿAwwām said: I. They said: So it is you. And he was the youngest of the people in age. She said: So they inflated for him a water-skin and he placed it on his chest, then he swam upon it until he came out to the side of the Nile where the meeting of the people was, then he went on until he attended them. She said: So we called upon God the Exalted for the Najāshī to be victorious over his enemy and to grant him firm establishment in his land. She said: By God, while we were in that state, awaiting what was to happen, al-Zubayr appeared, running, and he waved with his garment saying: Rejoice! For the Najāshī has been victorious, and God has destroyed his enemy, and established him in his land. She said: By God, I do not know that we ever rejoiced with any joy like it. She said: And the Najāshī returned, God having destroyed his enemy and established him in his land, and the affair of Abyssinia became stable for him, and we were with him in the best of dwellings, until we came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was in Makkah.
