The first Companions to embrace Islam ᴿᴬ
أَوَائِلُ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ: اخْتَلَفَ أَهْلُ الْعِلْمِ فِي أَوَّلِ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ الصَّحَابَةِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يَخْتَلِفُوا فِي أَوَّلِ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ النِّسَاءِ وَهِيَ أُمُّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ خَدِيجَةُ ؓ كَمَا أَنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ الصِّبْيَةِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ؓ وَأَنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ الْأَحْرَارِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ وَلَمْ يَتَرَدَّدْ، وَأَنَّ أَوَّلَ مَنْ أَسْلَمَ مِنَ الْمَوَالِي زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ ؓ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ. ثُمَّ تَبِعَهُمْ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ الصَّحَابَةُ وَقَدْ أَسْلَمَ عَدَدٌ مِنْهُمْ عَلَى يَدَيْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ؓ مِنْهُمْ طَلْحَةُ وَالزُّبَيْرُ وَسَعْدٌ وَغَيْرُهُمْ ؓ جَمِيعًا، كَمَا أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ أَوَّلُ مَنْ قَامَ خَطِيبًا مُظْهِرًا لِدِينِهِ حَتَّى أُوذِيَ فِي اللَّهِ وَضُرِبَ ضَرْبًا شَدِيدًا ثُمَّ أَسْلَمَ قَرِيبًا مِنْ ذَلِكَ حَمْزَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَأَعَزَّ اللَّهُ بِهِ الْإِسْلَامَ وَأَهْلَهُ.
Translation
✧ The first of the Companions to embrace Islam: The scholars differed about the first of the Companions to embrace Islam, except that they did not differ about the first of the women to embrace Islam, and she is the Mother of the Believers Khadījah ؓ, just as the first of the boys to embrace Islam was ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib ؓ and that the first of the free men to embrace Islam was Abū Bakr ؓ and he did not hesitate, and that the first of the clients to embrace Islam was Zayd b. Ḥārithah ؓ, the client of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. Then after that the Companions followed them, and a number of them embraced Islam at the hands of Abū Bakr ؓ, among them Ṭalḥah, al-Zubayr, Saʿd, and others ؓ all together, just as Abū Bakr was the first to stand as a preacher openly proclaiming his religion until he was harmed for the sake of Allāh and severely beaten. Then close to that time Ḥamzah b. ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib embraced Islam, and through him Allāh strengthened Islam and its people.
