Quraysh's Building of the Kaʿbah and the Prophet's ﷺ Judgment Among Them in Placing the Stone
Translation
✧ [Quraysh's disagreement over who should place the stone and the blood-lickers] Ibn Isḥāq said: Then the tribes of Quraysh gathered stones for its building, each tribe gathering separately. Then they built it, until the construction reached the place of the corner. They disputed over it, each tribe wanting to raise it to its place to the exclusion of the others, until they contended and formed alliances and prepared for battle. Banū ʿAbd al-Dār brought a basin filled with blood. Then they and Banū ʿAdī b. Kaʿb b. Luʾayy pledged one another to death, and they dipped their hands in that blood in that basin. So they were called the Blood-Lickers. Quraysh remained thus for four nights or five. Then they gathered in the mosque, and consulted together and dealt fairly with one another.
