The Prophet's ﷺ Marriage to Khadijah bt. Khuwaylid ᴿᴬ
[ صداق خديجة ؓ ]. قَالَ الْبَلَاذُرِيُّ وَالدِّمْيَاطِيُّ: اثْنَتَيْ عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً وَنَشًّا. قَالَ الْمُحِبُّ الطَّبَرِيُّ: ذَهَبًا. وَذَكَرَ أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ فَارِسٍ وَغَيْرُهُ رَحِمَهُمُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى أَنَّ أَبَا طَالِبٍ خَطَبَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَالَ: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَنَا مِنْ ذُرِّيَّةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَزَرْعِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَضِئْضِئِ مَعَدِّ مُضَرَ، وَجَعَلَنَا حَضَنَةَ بَيْتِهِ وَسُوَّاسَ حَرَمِهِ وَجَعَلَ لَنَا بَيْتًا مَحْجُوجًا وَحَرَمًا آمِنًا وَجَعَلَنَا حُكَّامَ النَّاسِ ثُمَّ إِنَّ ابْنَ أَخِي هَذَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لَا يُوزَنُ بِهِ رَجُلٌ بِهِ شَرَفًا وَنُبْلًا وَفَضْلًا وَعَقْلًا وَإِنْ كَانَ فِي الْمَالِ قِلًّا فَإِنَّ الْمَالَ ظِلٌّ زَائِلٌ وَأَمْرٌ حَائِلٌ وَعَارِيَةٌ مُسْتَرْجِعَةٌ، وَهُوَ وَاللَّهِ بَعْدَ هَذَا لَهُ نَبَأٌ عَظِيمٌ وَخَطَرٌ جَلِيلٌ، وَقَدْ خَطَبَ إِلَيْكُمْ رَغْبَةً فِي كَرِيمَتِكُمْ خَدِيجَةَ وَقَدْ بَذَلَ لَهَا مِنَ الصَّدَاقِ حُكْمَكُمْ عَاجِلُهُ وَآجِلُهُ اثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ أُوقِيَّةً وَنَشًّا. فَقَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ أَسَدٍ عَمُّهَا: هُوَ الْفَحْلُ لَا يُقْدَعُ أَنْفُهُ. وَأَنْكَحَهَا مِنْهُ. وَيُقَالُ: إِنَّ وَرَقَةَ هُوَ الَّذِي قَالَهُ.
Translation
✧ [The dowry of Khadījah ؓ] Al-Balādhurī and al-Dimyāṭī said: twelve ūqiyyahs and a nashsh. Al-Muḥibb al-Ṭabarī said: in gold. Abū al-Ḥusayn b. Fāris and others, may God Almighty have mercy on them, mentioned that Abū Ṭālib delivered a speech on that day and said: "Praise be to God, who made us of the progeny of Ibrāhīm, the seed of Ismāʿīl, the descendants of Maʿadd, the offspring of Muḍar, and made us custodians of His House and servants of His sanctuary, and set for us a house of pilgrimage and a secure sanctuary, and made us arbiters among the people. Then, this son of my brother, Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh, is a man with whom no man can be weighed in nobility, excellence, virtue, or intellect. Even if he is little in wealth, for wealth is a vanishing shadow, a passing matter, and a loan that is reclaimed. By God, after this, he shall have a great tiding and a momentous affair. He has sought from you, in desire for your noble one Khadījah, and he has offered her as a dowry twelve ūqiyyahs and a nashsh, according to your judgement, its immediate and deferred portions." Then ʿAmr b. Asad, her paternal uncle, said: "He is the stallion whose nose is not struck." And he married her to him. And it is said that Waraqah was the one who said it.
