Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ شِعْرٌ لِعِكْرِمَةَ فِي الدُّعَاءِ عَلَى الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ مَقْصُودٍ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَقَالَ عِكْرِمَةُ بْنُ عَامِرِ بْنِ هَاشِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الدَّارِ بْنِ قُصَيٍّ: لَا هُمَّ أَخْزِ الْأَسْوَدَ بْنَ مَقْصُودِ الْآخِذَ الْهَجْمَةَ فِيهَا التَّقليدْ بَيْنَ حِرَاءَ وثَبِيرٍ فَالْبِيدْ يَحْبِسُهَا وَهِيَ أُولَاتُ التَّطْرِيدْ فَضَمَّهَا إلَى طَمَاطِمٍ سُودْ أَخْفِرْهُ يَا رَبِّ وَأَنْتَ مَحْمُودْ قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: هذا ما صَحَّ لَهُ مِنْهَا، وَالطَّمَاطِمُ: الْأَعْلَاجُ. قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ ثُمَّ أَرْسَلَ عَبْدُ الْمُطَّلِبِ حَلْقَةَ بَابِ الْكَعْبَةِ، وَانْطَلَقَ هُوَ وَمَنْ مَعَهُ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ إلَى شَعَفِ الْجِبَالِ فَتَحَرَّزُوا فِيهَا يَنْتَظِرُونَ مَا أَبْرَهَةُ فَاعِلٌ بِمَكَّةَ إذَا دَخَلَهَا.
Translation
✧ [Poetry by ʿIkrimah Invoking Against al-Aswad b. Maqṣūd] Ibn Isḥāq said: ʿIkrimah b. ʿĀmir b. Hāshim b. ʿAbd Manāf b. ʿAbd al-Dār b. Quṣayy said: O Allāh, disgrace al-Aswad b. Maqṣūd, who seized the herd with necklaces upon it Between Ḥirāʾ, Thabīr, and the desert He withholds them, though they are foremost in being driven away, and he gathered them to black non-Arabs Break your promise with him, O Lord, while You are praised. Ibn Hishām said: This is what has been verified of it, and al-ṭamāṭim are the uncouth foreigners. Ibn Isḥāq said: Then ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib took hold of the ring of the door of the Kaʿbah, and he and those with him of Quraysh departed to the mountain peaks and fortified themselves there, waiting to see what Abrahah would do to Makkah when he entered it.
