Translation
✧ [The lineage of Thaqīf and the poetry of Ibn Abī al-Ṣalt concerning that] Thaqīf's name was Qasiyy b. al-Nabīt b. Munabbih b. Manṣūr b. Yaqdum b. Afṣā b. Duʿmī b. Iyād (b. Nizār) b. Maʿadd b. ʿAdnān. Umayyah b. Abī al-Ṣalt al-Thaqafī said: : My people are Iyād—if only they were nations, or if only they had stayed, then blessings would have become lean. A people who possess the courtyard of Iraq when they march all together, along with the cat and the pen. Umayyah b. Abī al-Ṣalt also said: : If you ask about me, Lubaynā, and about my lineage, I will inform you with certainty: We belong to al-Nabīt, father of Qasiyy, surely to Manṣūr b. Yaqdum, the most ancient. Ibn Hishām said: Thaqīf is Qasiyy b. Munabbih b. Bakr b. Hawāzin b. Manṣūr b. ʿIkrimah b. Khaṣafah b. Qays b. ʿAylān b. Muḍar b. Nizār b. Maʿadd b. ʿAdnān. And the first two verses and the last two are from two odes by Umayyah.
