Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
أَمْرُ دَوْسِ ذِي ثَعْلَبَانَ، وَابْتِدَاءُ مُلْكِ الْحَبَشَةِ [ وَذِكْرُ أَرْيَاطَ الْمُسْتَوْلِي عَلَى الْيَمَنِ ] [ فِرَارُ دَوْسٍ وَاسْتِنْصَارُهُ بِقَيْصَرَ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: وَأَفْلَتَ مِنْهُمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْ سَبَأٍ، يُقَالُ لَهُ: دَوْسُ ذُو ثَعْلَبَانَ، عَلَى فَرَسٍ لَهُ، فَسَلَكَ الرَّمْلَ فَأَعْجَزَهُمْ؛ فَمَضَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ ذَلِكَ، حَتَّى أَتَى قَيْصَرَ مَلِكَ الرُّومِ، فَاسْتَنْصَرَهُ عَلَى ذِي نُوَاسٍ وَجُنُودِهِ، وَأَخْبَرَهُ بِمَا بَلَغَ مِنْهُمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ. بَعُدَتْ بِلَادُكَ مِنَّا، وَلَكِنِّي سَأَكْتُبُ لَكَ إلَى مَلِكِ الْحَبَشَةِ فَإِنَّهُ عَلَى هَذَا الدِّينِ، وَهُوَ أَقْرَبُ إلَى بِلَادِكَ، وَكَتَبَ إلَيْهِ يَأْمُرُهُ بِنَصْرِهِ وَالطَّلَبِ بِثَأْرِهِ.
Translation
✧ The affair of Daws Dhu Thaʿlaban, and the beginning of Abyssinian rule [And mention of Aryāṭ, who took control of Yemen] [The flight of Daws and his seeking aid from Caesar] Ibn Isḥāq said: A man from Sabaʾ, called Daws Dhu Thaʿlaban, escaped from them on a horse of his. He took to the sand and eluded them. He went on his way until he came to Caesar, the king of the Romans, seeking his aid against Dhu Nuwās and his armies. He told him what had befallen them. Caesar said to him: “Your land is far from us, but I will write for you to the king of Abyssinia, for he follows this religion and is closer to your land.” So he wrote to him, commanding him to aid him and to seek vengeance for him.
