Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ النَّصْرَانِيَّةُ بِنَجْرَانَ ] وَبِنَجْرَانَ بَقَايَا مِنْ أَهْلِ دِينِ عِيسَى ابْنِ مَرْيَمَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى الْإِنْجِيلِ، أَهْلِ فَضْلٍ، وَاسْتِقَامَةٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ دِينِهِمْ، لَهُمْ رَأْسٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الثَّامِرِ، وَكَانَ مَوْقِعُ أَصْلِ ذَلِكَ الدِّينِ بِنَجْرَانَ، وَهِيَ بِأَوْسَطِ أَرْضِ الْعَرَبِ فِي ذَلِكَ الزَّمَانِ، وَأَهْلُهَا وَسَائِرُ الْعَرَبِ كُلِّهَا أَهْلُ أَوْثَانٍ يَعْبُدُونَهَا، وَذَلِكَ أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ بَقَايَا أَهْلِ ذَلِكَ الدِّينِ يُقَالُ لَهُ فَيْمِيُونُ - وَقَعَ بَيْنَ أَظْهُرِهِمْ، فَحَمَلَهُمْ عَلَيْهِ، فَدَانُوا بِهِ.
Translation
✧ [Christianity in Najrān] And in Najrān there were remnants of the people of the religion of ʿĪsā b. Maryam ﷺ, following the Injīl—people of virtue and uprightness among the people of their religion. They had a leader called ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Thāmir. The origin of that religion was established in Najrān, which is in the middle of the land of the Arabs at that time, and its people and all the rest of the Arabs were idolaters worshipping them. That was because a man from the remnants of the people of that religion, called Faymiyūn, came among them and induced them to adopt it, so they embraced it.
