Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ أَوْلَادُ النَّضْرِ وَأُمَّهَاتُهُمْ ] فَوَلَدَ النَّضْرُ بْنُ كِنَانَةَ رَجُلَيْنِ: مَالِكَ بْنَ النَّضْرِ، وَيَخْلُدَ بْنَ النَّضْرِ، فَأُمُّ مَالِكٍ: عَاتِكَةُ بِنْتُ عَدْوَانَ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَيْلَانَ وَلَا أَدْرِي أَهِيَ أُمُّ يَخْلُدَ أَمْ لَا. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَالصَّلْتُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ - فِيمَا قَالَ أَبُو عَمْرٍو الْمَدَنِيُّ - وَأُمُّهُمْ جَمِيعًا بِنْتُ سَعْدِ بْنِ ظَرِبٍ الْعَدْوَانِيِّ. وَعَدْوَانُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسِ بْنِ عَيْلَانَ. قَالَ كُثَيِّرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، وَهُوَ كُثَيِّرُ عَزَّةَ أَحَدُ بَنِي مُلَيْحِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ: : أَلَيْسَ أَبِي بِالصَّلْتِ أَمْ لَيْسَ إخْوَتِي لِكُلِّ هِجَانٍ مِنْ بَنِي النَّضْرِ أَزْهَرَا رَأَيْتُ ثِيَابَ الْعَصْبِ مُخْتَلِطَ السَّدَى بِنَّا وَبِهِمْ وَالْحَضْرَمِيَّ الْمُخَصَّرَا فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا مِنْ بَنِي النَّضْرِ فَاتْرُكُوا أَرَاكًا بِأَذْنَابِ الْفَوَائِجِ أَخْضَرَا وَهَذِهِ الْأَبْيَاتُ فِي قَصِيدَةٍ لَهُ. وَاَلَّذِينَ يُعْزَوْنَ إلَى الصَّلْتِ بْنِ النَّضْرِ مِنْ خُزَاعَةَ، بَنُو مُلَيْحِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، رَهْطُ كُثَيِّرِ عَزَّةَ. [ وَلَدُ مَالِكِ بْنِ النَّضْرِ وَأُمُّهُ ] قَالَ ابْنُ إسْحَاقَ: فَوَلَدَ مَالِكُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ فِهْرَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ، وَأُمُّهُ جَنْدَلَةُ بِنْتُ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ مُضَاضٍ الْجُرْهُمِيِّ. قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ: وَلَيْسَ بِابْنِ مُضَاضٍ الْأَكْبَرِ.
Translation
✧ [The Children of al-Naḍr and Their Mothers] Al-Naḍr b. Kinānah begot two men: Mālik b. al-Naḍr and Yakhlud b. al-Naḍr. The mother of Mālik was ʿĀtikah bt. ʿAdwān b. ʿAmr b. Qays b. ʿAylān, and I do not know whether she was also the mother of Yakhlud or not. Ibn Hishām said: And al-Ṣalt b. al-Naḍr — according to what Abū ʿAmr al-Madanī said — and the mother of them all was bt. Saʿd b. Ẓarib al-ʿAdwānī. And ʿAdwān b. ʿAmr b. Qays b. ʿAylān. Kathīr b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who is Kathīr ʿAzzah, one of the Banū Mulayḥ b. ʿAmr, of Khuzāʿah, said: : Is not my father al-Ṣalt, or are not my brothers, for every purebred of the Banū al-Naḍr, radiant? I saw the striped garments with mixed warp, with us and with them, and the Ḥaḍramī sash. So if you are not of the Banū al-Naḍr, then leave the green arāk trees at the tails of the valleys. These verses are in an ode of his. And those who trace their lineage to al-Ṣalt b. al-Naḍr among Khuzāʿah are the Banū Mulayḥ b. ʿAmr, the clan of Kathīr ʿAzzah. [The Children of Mālik b. al-Naḍr and His Mother] Ibn Isḥāq said: Mālik b. al-Naḍr begot Fihr b. Mālik, and his mother was Jandalah bt. al-Ḥārith b. Muḍāḍ al-Jurhumī. Ibn Hishām said: And he is not the son of Muḍāḍ the Elder.
