Translation
✧ b. Ghālib Ghālib: a transferred name from an active participle derived from gh-l-b, meaning overcoming. One says: ghalabtuhu ghalaban, with three fathahs, so I am ghālib (overcomer). He is given the kunyah Abū Taym. Ghālib's mother was Laylā bt. al-Ḥārith b. Tamīm b. Saʿd b. Hudhayl. His full brothers were al-Ḥārith, Muḥārib, Asad, ʿAwf, Jawn, and Dhiʾb. Muḥārib and al-Ḥārith were among Quraysh al-Ẓawāhir, then al-Ḥārith entered al-Abṭaḥ.
