ذِكْرُ مُلْكِ أَبِي تَغْلِبَ مَدِينَةَ حَرَّانَ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ، فِي الثَّانِي وَالْعِشْرِينَ مِنْ جُمَادَى الْأُولَى، سَارَ أَبُو تَغْلِبَ بْنُ نَاصِرِ الدَّوْلَةِ بْنِ حَمْدَانَ إِلَى حَرَّانَ، فَرَأَى أَهْلَهَا قَدْ أَغْلَقُوا أَبْوَابَهَا، وَامْتَنَعُوا مِنْهُ، فَنَازَلَهُمْ وَحَصَرَهُمْ، فَرَعَى أَصْحَابُهُ زُرُوعَ تِلْكَ الْأَعْمَالِ، وَكَانَ الْغَلَاءُ فِي الْعَسْكَرِ كَثِيرًا، فَبَقِيَ كَذَلِكَ إِلَى ثَالِثَ عَشَرَ جُمَادَى الْآخِرَةِ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِ نَفَرَانِ مِنْ أَعْيَانِ أَهْلِهَا لَيْلًا وَصَالَحَاهُ، وَأَخَذَا الْأَمَانَ لِأَهْلِ الْبَلَدِ وَعَادَا. فَلَمَّا أَصْبَحَا أَعْلَمَا أَهْلَ حَرَّانَ مَا فَعَلَاهُ، فَاضْطَرَبُوا، وَحَمَلُوا السِّلَاحَ وَأَرَادُوا قَتْلَهُمَا، فَسَكَّنَهُمْ بَعْضُ أَهْلِهَا، فَسَكَنُوا، وَاتَّفَقُوا عَلَى إِتْمَامِ الصُّلْحِ، وَخَرَجُوا جَمِيعُهُمْ إِلَى أَبِي تَغْلِبَ، وَفَتَحُوا أَبْوَابَ الْبَلَدِ وَدَخَلَهُ أَبُو تَغْلِبَ وَإِخْوَتُهُ وَجَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ، وَصَلَّوْا بِهِ الْجُمُعَةَ وَخَرَجُوا إِلَى مُعَسْكَرِهِمْ، وَاسْتُعْمِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ سَلَامَةُ الْبَرْقَعِيدِيُّ لِأَنَّهُ طَلَبَهُ أَهْلُهُ لِحُسْنِ سِيرَتِهِ، وَكَانَ إِلَيْهِ أَيْضًا عَمَلُ الرَّقَّةِ، وَهُوَ مِنْ أَكَابِرِ أَصْحَابِ بَنِي حَمْدَانَ، وَعَادَ أَبُو تَغْلِبَ إِلَى الْمَوْصِلِ وَمَعَهُ جَمَاعَةٌ مِنْ أَحْدَاثِ حَرَّانَ، وَسَبَبُ سُرْعَةِ عَوْدِهِ أَنَّ بَنِي نُمَيْرٍ عَاثُوا فِي بَلَدِ الْمَوْصِلِ، وَقَتَلُوا الْعَامِلَ بِبَرْقَعِيدَ، فَعَادَ إِلَيْهِمْ لِيَكْفِيَهُمْ.
Translation
✧ Mention of Abū Taghlib's possession of the city of Ḥarrān In this year, on the twenty-second of Jumādā al-Ūlā, Abū Taghlib b. Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān marched to Ḥarrān. He found that its people had closed its gates and barred him from entering, so he encamped against them and besieged them. His companions grazed the crops of those districts, and there was great scarcity in the army. This continued until the thirteenth of Jumādā al-Ākhirah, when two men from the notables of its people came out to him at night and made peace with him, obtained a guarantee of safety for the people of the town, and returned. When morning came, they informed the people of Ḥarrān of what they had done, and they were agitated. They took up arms and wanted to kill the two men, but one of its people calmed them, and they became calm. They agreed to complete the peace, and they all went out to Abū Taghlib. They opened the gates of the town, and Abū Taghlib, his brothers, and a group of his companions entered it. They performed the Friday prayer there and then went out to their camp. Salāmah al-Barqaʿīdī was appointed over them because its people requested him due to his good conduct. He also held the governorship of al-Raqqah, and he was one of the chief companions of the Banū Ḥamdān. Abū Taghlib returned to al-Mawṣil, accompanied by a group of the young men of Ḥarrān. The reason for his swift return was that the Banū Numayr had wrought havoc in the land of al-Mawṣil and killed the governor in Barqaʿīd, so he returned to them to restrain them.
