Then the year 357 AH began
وَفِيهَا عَرَضَ لِلنَّاسِ فِي تِشْرِينَ دَاءُ الْمَاشَرَا، فَمَاتَ بِهِ خَلْقٌ كَثِيرٌ فَجْأَةً، فَإِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ أَكْثَرُ جِمَالِ الْحَجِيجِ فِي الطَّرِيقِ مِنَ الْعَطَشِ، وَلَمْ يَصِلْ مِنْهُمْ إِلَى مَكَّةَ إِلَّا الْقَلِيلُ، وَمَاتَ أَكْثَرُ مَنْ وَصَلَ مِنْهُمْ عَامَهُ ذَلِكَ، فَإِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ.
Translation
✧ In it, in Tishrīn, the disease of al-māsharā occurred among the people, and many people died from it suddenly. Verily we belong to Allah and to Him we return. In it, most of the camels of the pilgrims died on the road from thirst, and only a few of them reached Makkah, and most of those who reached it died in that year. Verily we belong to Allah and to Him we return.
