Genealogy of Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Some Accounts of His Forefathers and Ancestors
[ زَوَاجُ هَاشِمٍ ] وَكَانَ هَاشِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَتَزَوَّجَ سَلْمَى بِنْتَ عَمْرٍو أَحَدِ بَنِي عَدِيِّ بْنِ النَّجَّارِ، وَكَانَتْ قَبْلَهُ عِنْدَ أُحَيْحَةَ بْنِ الْجُلَاحِ بْنِ الْحَرِيشِ قَالَ ابْنُ هِشَامٍ وَيُقَالُ: الْحَرِيسُ - ابْنُ جَحْجَبِي بْنِ كُلْفَةَ بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَوْفِ بْنِ مَالِكِ بْنِ الْأَوْسِ. فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ عَمْرَو بْنَ أُحَيْحَةَ، وَكَانَتْ لَا تَنْكِحُ الرِّجَالَ لِشَرَفِهَا فِي قَوْمِهَا حَتَّى يَشْتَرِطُوا لَهَا أَنَّ أَمْرَهَا بِيَدِهَا، إذَا كَرِهَتْ رَجُلًا فَارَقَتْهُ.
Translation
✧ [THE MARRIAGE OF HĀSHIM] Hāshim b. ʿAbd Manāf had come to Madinah and married Salmā bt. ʿAmr, one of the Banū ʿAdī b. al-Najjār. Before him she had been married to Uḥayḥa b. al-Julāḥ b. al-Ḥarīsh — Ibn Hishām said: and it is said al-Ḥarīs — b. Jaḥjabī b. Kulfa b. ʿAwf b. ʿAmr b. ʿAwf b. Mālik b. al-Aws. She bore him ʿAmr b. Uḥayḥa. She would not marry men, due to her nobility among her people, until they stipulated for her that her affair would be in her own hand: if she disliked a man, she would part from him.
