✧ Mention of the rebellion of the people of Antioch against Sayf al-Dawlah In this year, the people of Antioch rebelled against Sayf al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān. The reason for that was that a man from the people of Ṭarsūs, who was a leader there, called Rashīq al-Nasīmī, was among those who surrendered it to the Byzantines and went out to Antioch. When he reached it, a man known as Ibn al-Ahwāzī, who was the tax-farmer of the mills in Antioch, served him. He handed over to him what had been collected with him from the yield of the mills, and made rebellion seem good to him, and informed him that Sayf al-Dawlah was in Mayyāfāriqīn and had become unable to return to Syria. So he rebelled and took control of Antioch, and marched to Aleppo. Many battles took place between him and the deputy of Sayf al-Dawlah, who was Qarghūyah. Qarghūyah went up to the citadel of Aleppo and fortified himself in it. Sayf al-Dawlah sent an army with his servant Bashārah as reinforcement for Qarghūyah. When Rashīq learned of them, he fled from Aleppo, fell from his horse, and an Arab man came down to him and killed him, took his head, and carried it to Qarghūyah and Bashārah. Ibn al-Ahwāzī reached Antioch and presented a man from the Daylamites named Dazbar, and called him al-Amīr. He sought strength with an ʿAlid man to establish the daʿwah for him, and he called himself al-Ustādh. He oppressed the people, collected money, and Qarghūyah marched toward Antioch. A great battle took place between them, and it first went against Ibn al-Ahwāzī, then it turned against Qarghūyah, and he fled and returned to Aleppo. Then Sayf al-Dawlah returned from Mayyāfāriqīn when he finished the raid to Aleppo. He stayed there one night, and went out the next day, and fought Dazbar and Ibn al-Ahwāzī. He fought those who were in it, and they were defeated. He captured Dazbar and Ibn al-Ahwāzī, and killed Dazbar, and imprisoned Ibn al-Ahwāzī for a period, then killed him.
