Translation
✧ Mention of the rebellion of the people of Ḥarrān. In this year (in Ṣafar), the people of Ḥarrān withheld obedience from its governor, Hibat Allāh b. Nāṣir al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān, and rose in rebellion against him. The reason for that was that he held it, along with other parts of Diyār Muḍar, by appointment from his paternal uncle Sayf al-Dawlah. His deputies oppressed them and wronged them, and they imposed the mutʿah tax on the merchants among the people of Ḥarrān, and they went to extremes in wronging them. Hibat Allāh was with his uncle Sayf al-Dawlah in Aleppo at the time. The people of the town rose against his deputies and drove them out. Hibat Allāh heard the news, marched against them, fought them, and besieged them. He fought them and they fought him for more than two months, and a great many of them were killed. When Sayf al-Dawlah saw the seriousness of the matter and the persistence of the trouble, he approached them, corresponded with them, and granted them what they wanted. So they made peace and opened the gates of the town, and the ʿayyārūn fled from it out of fear of Hibat Allāh.
