Then the year 349 AH began
وَفِيهَا كَانَ بِالْبِلَادِ غَلَاءٌ شَدِيدٌ، وَكَانَ أَكْثَرُهُ بِالْمَوْصِلِ، فَبَلَغَ الْكُرُّ مِنَ الْحِنْطَةِ أَلْفًا وَمِائَتَيْ دِرْهَمٍ، وَالْكُرُّ مِنَ الشَّعِيرِ ثَمَانُمِائَةِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَهَرَبَ أَهْلُهَا إِلَى الشَّامِ وَالْعِرَاقِ.
Translation
✧ In this year there was a severe famine in the lands, and the greatest part of it was in al-Mawṣil. A kurr of wheat reached one thousand two hundred dirhams, and a kurr of barley eight hundred dirhams. Its people fled to Syria and Iraq.
