Then the year 345 AH began
ذِكْرُ غَزْوِ سَيْفِ الدَّوْلَةِ بِلَادَ الرُّومِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ فِي رَجَبٍ، سَارَ سَيْفُ الدَّوْلَةِ بْنُ حَمْدَانَ فِي جُيُوشٍ إِلَى بِلَادِ الرُّومِ وَغَزَاهَا حَتَّى بَلَغَ خَرْشَنَةَ، وَصَارِخَةَ، وَفَتَحَ عِدَّةَ حُصُونٍ، وَسَبَى وَأَسَرَ، وَأَحْرَقَ وَخَرَّبَ، وَأَكْثَرَ الْقَتْلَ فِيهِمْ، وَرَجَعَ إِلَى أُذُنَةَ فَأَقَامَ بِهَا حَتَّى جَاءَهُ رَئِيسُ طَرَسُوسَ، فَخَلَعَ عَلَيْهِ وَأَعْطَاهُ شَيْئًا كَثِيرًا، وَعَادَ إِلَى حَلَبَ. فَلَمَّا سَمِعَ الرُّومُ بِمَا فَعَلَ، جَمَعُوا وَسَارُوا إِلَى مَيَّافَارِقِينَ، وَأَحْرَقُوا سَوَادَهَا وَنَهَبُوهُ، وَخَرَّبُوا وَسَبَوْا أَهْلَهُ، وَنَهَبُوا أَمْوَالَهُمْ وَعَادُوا.
Translation
✧ Mention of Sayf al-Dawlah's raid on the lands of the Byzantines In this year, in Rajab, Sayf al-Dawlah b. Ḥamdān marched with armies to the lands of the Byzantines and raided them until he reached Kharshanah and Ṣārikhah. He conquered several fortresses, took captives and prisoners, burned and destroyed, and killed many among them. He returned to Udhanah and stayed there until the chief of Ṭarṣūṣ came to him, so he bestowed a robe of honor upon him and gave him many things, then returned to Aleppo. When the Byzantines heard what he had done, they gathered and marched to Mayyāfāriqīn, burned its cultivated outskirts and plundered them, destroyed and took its people captive, plundered their wealth, and returned.
