Then the year 343 AH began
وَفِي ذِي الْحِجَّةِ: عَرَضَ لِمُعِزِّ الدَّوْلَةِ مَرَضٌ وَهُوَ الْإِيقَاظُ الدَّائِمُ، فَأَرْجَفَ بِهِ، فَاضْطَرَبَتْ بَغْدَادُ اضْطِرَابًا شَدِيدًا، وَاضْطُرَّ إِلَى الرُّكُوبِ مَعَ عِلَّتِهِ حَتَّى رَآهُ النَّاسُ فَسَكَنُوا.
Translation
✧ In Dhū al-Ḥijjah, Muʿizz al-Dawlah was afflicted with an illness, namely constant wakefulness. Rumors spread about him, and Baghdad was thrown into severe turmoil. He was compelled to ride out despite his ailment until the people saw him, whereupon they calmed down.
