مَعَايِشِ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ ؓ: كَانَ آدَمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ حَرَّاثًا، وَكَانَ نُوحٌ نَجَّارًا، وَكَانَ إِدْرِيسُ خَيَّاطًا، وَكَانَ صَالِحٌ تَاجِرًا، وَكَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ زَرَّاعًا، وَكَانَ شُعَيْبٌ رَاعِيًا [ وَكَانَ مُوسَى رَاعِيًا ] وَكَانَ دَاوُدُ زَرَّادًا، وَكَانَ سُلَيْمَانُ مَلِكًا، وَكَانَ عِيسَى لَا يَخْبَأُ شَيْئًا لِغَدِهِ، وَكَانَ نَبِيُّنَا ﷺ يَرْعَى غَنَمًا لِأَهْلِ بَيْتِهِ بِأَجْيَادَ، وَكَانَتْ حَوَّاءُ تَغْزِلُ الشَّعْرَ فَتَحُوكُهُ بِيَدِهَا فَتَكْسُو نَفْسَهَا وَوَلَدَهَا.
Translation
✧ The livelihoods of the prophets Ibn ʿAbbās ؓ said: Ādam ﷺ was a tiller, Nūḥ was a carpenter, Idrīs was a tailor, Ṣāliḥ was a merchant, Ibrāhīm was a cultivator, Shuʿayb was a shepherd, [and Mūsā was a shepherd,] Dāwūd was a maker of coats of mail, Sulaymān was a king, ʿĪsā used not to store up anything for his morrow, and our Prophet ﷺ used to tend sheep for the people of his household at Ajyād. Ḥawwāʾ used to spin hair and weave it with her hand, and so clothe herself and her child.
