Then the year 338 AH began

Translation

✧ An account of the situation of ʿImrān b. Shāhīn In this year the affair of ʿImrān b. Shāhīn grew grave, and his standing became strong. The beginning of his situation was that he was from the people of al-Jāmida, and he collected revenues, then fled to al-Baṭīḥa fearing the sultan. He settled among the reeds and thickets, and limited himself to what he caught of fish and waterfowl as food. Then he began to waylay those who traveled through al-Baṭīḥa, and a group of hunters and a group of thieves gathered around him, so he grew strong by them and protected his side from the sultan. When he feared being targeted, he sought safety with Abū al-Qāsim al-Barīdī, who appointed him to protect al-Jāmida and the regions of al-Baṭāʾiḥ. He continued to gather men to outnumber most of his companions, grew strong, equipped himself with weapons, and took fortresses on the mounds in al-Baṭīḥa, and he gained control over those regions. When his affair became severe, Muʿizz al-Dawla sent his vizier Abū Jaʿfar al-Ṣaymarī to fight him. He marched against him with armies, fought him time after time, and captured his family and dependents. ʿImrān b. Shāhīn fled and hid, and was on the verge of destruction. It happened that ʿImād al-Dawla b. Buwayh died, and his army in Fārs fell into disorder. Muʿizz al-Dawla wrote to al-Ṣaymarī to hasten to Shīrāz to set matters right there, so he left ʿImrān and marched to Shīrāz, as we shall mention in connection with the death of ʿImād al-Dawla. When al-Ṣaymarī departed from al-Baṭāʾiḥ, ʿImrān b. Shāhīn emerged from hiding, returned to his affairs, gathered those of his companions who had dispersed, and his situation grew strong. We shall mention whatever of his reports is needed hereafter.
