Then the year 334 AH began
وَفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ: كَثُرَ الْقَمْلُ بِرُسْتَاقِ الْقَيْمَرَةِ الْكُبْرَى حَتَّى يَئِسَ النَّاسُ مِنْ غُلَاتِهِمْ، فَانْحَطَّ [مِنْ نَوْعِ] الطَّيْرِ الصُّفْرِ يَزِيدُ عَلَى جِرْمِ الْعُصْفُورِ، وَكَانَ الطَّائِرُ يُعَلَّقُ عَلَى شَجَرَةٍ فَيَصْفَرُّ فَيَطِيرُ الطَّيْرُ حِينَئِذٍ أَفْوَاجًا فَيَنْحَطُّ كُلُّ فَوْجٍ مِنْهَا عَلَى ضَيْعَةٍ، فَيَلْقُطُ الْقَمْلَ حَتَّى فَنِيَ.
Translation
✧ In this year: lice became abundant in the rural district of al-Qaymarah al-Kubrā until people despaired of their crops, then a kind of yellow bird, larger than the body of a sparrow, descended. A bird would be hung on a tree and it would whistle, whereupon the birds would fly in flocks, each flock descending on an estate, picking up the lice until they were gone.
