Translation
✧: : He was in the interval between prophets, and he was a righteous man from a village among the villages of the Romans, and his people worshipped idols. Wahb b. Munabbih said: He used to raid them and strive against them, killing, taking captives, and seizing property, and he would not fight them except with the jawbone of a camel. He had been given strength in striking, so that no iron or anything else could bind him, and they could not overcome him. So they went to his wife and offered her a payment, and she said: I will bind him for you. They gave her a strong rope and said: When he sleeps, bind his hand to his neck until we come and seize him. She did that, and when he awoke, he pulled it with his hand and it fell from his neck. He said to her: Why did you do this? She said: I was testing your strength with it. She sent to them informing them, so they sent him an iron shackle. When he slept, she put it on his neck, and when he awoke, he pulled it and it fell off. He said: Why did you do this? She said: I am testing your strength. I have never seen anyone like you in the world, O Samson. Is there anything on earth that can overpower you? He said: No, except one thing. She said: And what is it? He said: I am not going to tell you. She kept asking him until he said: Woe to you, my mother made me a vow, so nothing can overpower me or restrain me except my hair. She said: When he slept, she bound his hand to his neck with the hair of his head, and that bound him. She sent to the people, and they seized him. They cut off his nose [and his ears], gouged out his eye, and bound him for the people in the middle of the city. He called upon God to give him power over them, and he was commanded to take hold of two pillars of the city—the city had columns—so he took hold of the two pillars upon which the king and the people who were looking at him were, and he pulled them. God, Mighty and Majestic, restored to him his sight and what they had taken from his body, and the city fell upon the people and the king, and they perished.. And Samson was in the days of the petty kings.
