Translation

✧ Mention of the governorship of his son, the Amir Nuh b. Nasr When Nasr b. Ahmad died, his son Nuh succeeded him over Khurasan and what lies beyond the river, and he was established in Sha'ban of this year. The people pledged allegiance to him and swore oaths to him, and he was titled al-Amir al-Hamid. He delegated his affairs and the management of his kingdom to Abu al-Fadl Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Hakim, and acted according to his opinion. When Nuh assumed power, Abu al-Fadl b. Ahmad b. Hamawayh fled from him. He was one of the leading companions of his father. The reason for that was that al-Sa'id Nasr had appointed his son Isma'il over Bukhara, and Abu al-Fadl had been in charge of his affairs and served as his deputy, but he behaved badly toward Nuh and his companions, so Nuh resented him for that. Then Isma'il died during his father's lifetime. Nasr was inclined toward Abu al-Fadl and favored him, so he said to him: "If the event of death befalls me, save yourself, for I do not trust Nuh where you are concerned." When the Amir Nasr died, Abu al-Fadl departed from Bukhara, crossed the Jayhun, and arrived at Amul. He wrote to Abu 'Ali b. Muhtaj, who was in Naysabur, informing him of the situation. There was a marriage alliance between them. Abu 'Ali wrote back forbidding him from approaching his district for reasons of policy. Then the Amir Nuh sent to Abu al-Fadl a letter of safe-conduct in his own handwriting, so he returned to him, and Nuh treated him well and appointed him over Samarqand. Abu al-Fadl turned away from Muhammad b. Ahmad al-Hakim, paid no attention to him, and called him al-Khayyat (the tailor). So al-Hakim harbored hatred for him and turned away from him.
