The dismissal of b. Wahsudhan from Isfahan

Translation

✧ Mention of the dismissal of Ibn Wahsudhān from Iṣbahān In the year four and three hundred, in al-Muḥarram, ʿAlī b. Wahsudhān, who was in charge of military affairs in Iṣbahān, sent a ghulām he had raised and adopted to Aḥmad b. Shāh, the tax collector, on an errand. He met him while riding and spoke to him concerning his master's need, raising his voice. Aḥmad insulted him, saying, "O hired one, you speak to me like this on the road!" and showed anger at him. He returned to his master weeping and informed him of that. He said, "He is right; were you not a hired one, you would have killed him." The ghulām went back, met him while he was riding, and killed him. The caliph condemned that, and dismissed ʿAlī b. Wahsudhān from Iṣbahān, appointing in his place Aḥmad b. Masrūr al-Balkhī. Ibn Wahsudhān stayed in the districts of al-Jabal.
