The killing of Abu Thabit, amir of Tarsus, and the appointment of b. al-A'rabi
ذِكْرُ عِدَّةِ حَوَادِثَ فِي سنة سبع وثمانين ومائتين جَمَعَتْ طَيٌّ مَنْ قَدَرَتْ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ الْأَعْرَابِ، وَخَرَجُوا عَلَى قُفُلِ الْحَاجِّ ، فَوَاقَعُوهُمْ بِالْمَعْدِنِ، وَقَاتَلُوهُمْ يَوْمَيْنِ بَيْنَ الْخَمِيسِ وَالْجُمُعَةِ، لِثَلَاثٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ، فَانْهَزَمَ الْعَرَبُ وَقُتِلَ كَثِيرٌ وَسَلِمَ الْحَاجُّ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ الْعَدَوِيُّ - عَدِيُّ رَبِيعَةَ - أَمِيرُ دِيَارِ رَبِيعَةَ مِنْ بِلَادِ الْجَزِيرَةِ، فَوَلِيَ مَكَانَهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ابْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُعْتَمِرِ. ( وَفِيهَا تُوُفِّيَتْ قَطْرُ النَّدَى ابْنَةُ خُمَارَوَيْهِ بْنِ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ طُولُونَ صَاحِبِ مِصْرَ، وَهِيَ امْرَأَةُ الْمُعْتَضِدِ. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ هَذِهِ السَّنَةَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ. وَفِيهَا اسْتَعْمَلَ الْمُعْتَضِدُ عِيسَى النُّوشَرِيُّ، وَهُوَ أَمِيرُ أَصْبَهَانَ، عَلَى بِلَادِ فَارِسَ ، وَأَمَرَهُ بِالْمَسِيرِ إِلَيْهِ. ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ سَبْعٍ وَثَمَانِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ فَمِنَ الْحَوَادِثِ فِيهَا: أَنَّ الْمُعْتَضِدَ دَخَلَ مِنْ مُتَنَزَّهِهِ بِبَرَازِالرُّوزِ إِلَى بَغْدَادَ وَأَمَرَ بِبِنَاءِ قَصْرٍ فِي مَوْضِعٍ اخْتَارَهُ مِنْ بَرَازِالرُّوزِ، فَحُمِلَتْ إِلَيْهِ الْآلَاتُ، وَابْتُدِئَ بِعَمَلِهِ.
Translation
✧ Mention of several events In the year 287 AH, Ṭayy gathered those of the Bedouins it was able to, and they went out against the caravan of the pilgrims, and they engaged them at al-Maʿdin, and fought them for two days between Thursday and Friday, with three nights remaining of Dhū al-Ḥijjah. The Arabs were defeated, many were killed, and the pilgrims were safe. In it, Isḥāq b. Ayyūb b. Aḥmad b. ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb al-ʿAdawī — ʿAdī of Rabīʿah — amir of Diyār Rabīʿah in the lands of al-Jazīrah, died, and ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Haytham b. ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Muʿtamir was appointed in his place. In it, Qaṭr al-Nadā, daughter of Khumārawayh b. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn, ruler of Egypt, died, and she was the wife of al-Muʿtaḍid. The people were led in the pilgrimage this year by Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Dāwūd. In it, al-Muʿtaḍid appointed ʿĪsā al-Nūsharī, amir of Iṣbahān, over the lands of Fārs, and ordered him to proceed there. Then the year 287 AH began. Among its events: Al-Muʿtaḍid entered from his pleasure resort at Barāz al-Rūz into Baghdād and ordered the construction of a palace in a place he selected at Barāz al-Rūz. The materials were transported to it, and work on it was begun.
