The Year 271 AH
عَزْلِ عَمْرِو بْنِ اللَّيْثِ عَنْ خُرَاسَانَ وَلِأَرْبَعٍ بَقِينَ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ فِي سَنَةُ إِحْدَى وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ عَزَلَ الْخَلِيفَةُ عَمْرَو بْنَ اللَّيْثِ عَنْ وِلَايَةِ خُرَاسَانَ وَأَمَرَ بِلَعْنِهِ عَلَى الْمَنَابِرِ، فَلُعِنَ، فَسَارَ صَاعِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ إِلَى فَارِسَ لِحَرْبِ عَمْرٍو، فَاسْتَخْلَفَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَاهِرٍ رَافِعَ بْنَ هَرْثَمَةَ عَلَى خُرَاسَانَ، فَلَمْ يُغَيِّرِ السَّامَانِيَّةَ عَمَّا وَرَاءَ النَّهْرِ.
Translation
✧ The Dismissal of ʿAmr b. al-Layth from Khurāsān With four nights remaining of Shawwāl In the year 271 AH, the caliph dismissed ʿAmr b. al-Layth from the governorship of Khurāsān and ordered that he be cursed from the pulpits. So he was cursed. Ṣāʿid b. Makhlad then marched to Fārs to fight ʿAmr. Muḥammad b. Ṭāhir appointed Rāfiʿ b. Harthama as his successor over Khurāsān, but this did not change the Sāmānids’ position beyond the river.
