Translation
✧ In Muḥarram of the year two hundred and sixty-five, Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn, the deputy of the Egyptian lands, besieged the city of Anṭākiya, in which was Sīmā al-Ṭawīl, and he did not cease until he conquered it after wars whose mention would be lengthy, and the aforementioned Sīmā was killed. He stayed there until gifts from the king of the Byzantines came to him, among which were Muslim captives, with each captive a copy of the Qur'an, and among them was ʿAbd Allāh b. Rashīd b. Kāwis, who had been the governor of the frontier fortresses. Thus Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn gained complete possession of Syria together with the Egyptian lands; for when the deputy of Damascus, Amājūr, died, Ibn Ṭūlūn rode from Egypt, and Ibn Amājūr met him at al-Ramla, and he confirmed him over it. He proceeded to Damascus and entered it, then to Ḥimṣ and took possession of it, then to Ḥalab and gained control over it, then he rode to Anṭākiya.
