وَفِي رَجَبٍ مِنْ هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ ظَهَرَ عِيسَى بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْحَسَنِيَّانِ بِالْكُوفَةِ، وَقَتَلَا بِهَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ دَاوُدَ بْنِ عِيسَى وَاسْتَفْحَلَ أَمْرُهُمَا بِهَا. وَحَجَّ بِالنَّاسِ فِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْحُسَيْنِ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ. وَفِيهَا أَمَرَ الْمُهْتَدِي بِإِخْرَاجِ الْقِيَانِ وَالْمُغَنِّينَ مِنْ سَامَرَّا، وَنَفَاهُمْ عَنْهَا، وَأَمَرَ أَيْضًا بِقَتْلِ السِّبَاعِ الَّتِي كَانَتْ بِدَارِ السُّلْطَانِ، وَطَرْدِ الْكِلَابِ، وَرَدَّ الْمَظَالِمَ، وَجَلَسَ لِلْعَامَّةِ، وَلَمَّا وَلِيَ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا كُلُّهَا بِالْفِتَنِ مَنْسُوخَةً. وفِي هَذِهِ السَّنَةِ كَانَتْ وَقْعَةٌ بَيْنَ عَسْكَرِ الْخَلِيفَةِ وَبَيْنَ مُسَاوِرٍ الشَّارِيِّ، فَانْهَزَمَ عَسْكَرُ الْخَلِيفَةِ. وَفِيهَا مَاتَ الْمُعَلَّى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ. وَفِيهَا، فِي ذِي الْقَعْدَةِ حُبِسَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي الشَّوَارِبِ الْقَاضِي، وَوُلِّيَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ نَائِلٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ قَضَاءَ سَامَرَّا فِي ذِي الْحَجَّةِ. وَفِيهَا ظَهَرَ بِمِصْرَ إِنْسَانٌ عَلَوِيٌّ ذُكِرَ أَنَّهُ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ طَبَاطَبَا، وَكَانَ ظُهُورُهُ بَيْنَ بُرْقَةَ، وَالْإِسْكَنْدَرِيَّةِ، وَسَارَ إِلَى الصَّعِيدِ، وَكَثُرَ أَتْبَاعُهُ، وَادَّعَى الْخِلَافَةَ، فَسَيَّرَ إِلَيْهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ طُولُونَ جَيْشًا، فَقَاتَلُوهُ، وَانْهَزَمَ أَصْحَابُهُ عَنْهُ، وَثَبَتَ هُوَ فَقُتِلَ، وَحُمِلَ رَأْسُهُ إِلَى مِصْرَ.
Translation
✧ In Rajab of this year, ʿĪsā b. Jaʿfar and ʿAlī b. Zayd, the two Ḥasanids, appeared in al-Kūfah, and there they killed ʿAbd Allāh b. Muḥammad b. Dāwūd b. ʿĪsā, and their affair became mighty there. In this year, ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn b. Ismāʿīl b. al-ʿAbbās b. Muḥammad b. ʿAlī b. ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbbās led the people in the pilgrimage. In it, al-Muhtadī ordered the expulsion of the singing slave girls and singers from Sāmarrā, and banished them from it, and he also ordered the killing of the beasts of prey that were in the sultan's residence, and the expulsion of dogs, and he restored grievances, and sat for the common people. When he assumed office, the whole world was with tribulations obliterated. In this year there was a battle between the caliph's army and Musāwir al-Shārī, and the caliph's army was routed. In it, al-Muʿallā b. Ayyūb died. In it, in Dhū al-Qaʿdah, al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad b. Abī al-Shawārib the judge was imprisoned, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Nāʾil al-Baṣrī was appointed to the judiciary of Sāmarrā in Dhū al-Ḥijjah. In it, there appeared in Egypt an ʿAlid man, mentioned to be Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd Allāh b. Ibrāhīm b. Ṭabāṭabā. His appearance was between Barqah and Alexandria, and he marched to Upper Egypt, and his followers became numerous, and he claimed the caliphate. Aḥmad b. Ṭūlūn sent an army against him, and they fought him, and his companions were routed from him, while he stood firm and was killed, and his head was carried to Egypt.
