The Year 218 AH
ثُمَّ دَخَلَتْ سَنَةُ ثَمَانَ عَشْرَةَ وَمِائَتَيْنِ فَمِنَ الْحَوَادِثِ فِيهَا: [أَمْرُ الْمَأْمُونِ بِتَفْرِيغِ الرَّافِقَةِ] أَنَّ الْمَأْمُونَ أَمَرَ بِتَفْرِيغِ الرَّافِقَةِ لِيَنْزِلَهَا حَشَمُهُ، فَضَجَّ مِنْ ذَلِكَ أَهْلُهَا، فَأَعْفَاهُمْ. وَالرَّافِقَةُ: رِقَّةُ الشَّامِ.
Translation
✧ Then the year 218 AH began. Among the events of this year: [Al-Maʾmūn’s command to evacuate al-Rāfiqah] Al-Maʾmūn ordered the evacuation of al-Rāfiqah so that his retinue could lodge there. Its inhabitants raised a clamor because of that, so he excused them. Al-Rāfiqah is Raqqah of Syria.
