The Year 204 AH
وَفِيهَا انْحَدَرَ السَّيِّدُ بْنُ أَنَسٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ مِنَ الْمَوْصِلِ إِلَى الْمَأْمُونِ، فَتَظَلَّمَ مِنْهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ صَالِحٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ، وَذَكَرَ أَنَّهُ قَتَلَ إِخْوَتَهُ وَأَهْلَ بَيْتِهِ، فَأَحْضَرَهُ الْمَأْمُونُ، فَلَمَّا حَضَرَ قَالَ: أَنْتَ السَّيِّدُ ؟ قَالَ: أَنْتَ السَّيِّدُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَأَنَا ابْنُ أَنَسٍ. فَاسْتَحْسَنَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ: أَنْتَ قَتَلْتَ إِخْوَةَ هَذَا ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، وَلَوْ كَانَ مَعَهُمْ لَقَتَلْتُهُ لِأَنَّهُمْ أَدْخَلُوا الْخَارِجِيَّ بَلَدَكَ، وَأَعْلَوْهُ عَلَى مِنْبَرِكَ، وَأَبْطَلُوا دَعْوَتَكَ. فَعَفَا عَنْهُ، وَاسْتَعْمَلَهُ عَلَى الْمَوْصِلِ، وَكَانَ عَلَى الْقَضَاءِ بِهَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْأَشْيَبُ.
Translation
✧ In this year, al-Sayyid b. Anas al-Azdī descended from al-Mawṣil to al-Maʾmūn. Muḥammad b. al-Ḥasan b. Ṣāliḥ al-Hamdānī complained about him, and mentioned that he had killed his brothers and his household. So al-Maʾmūn summoned him. When he appeared, he said: “Are you al-Sayyid?” He replied: “You are al-Sayyid, O Commander of the Faithful, and I am Ibn Anas.” He approved of that, then said: “Did you kill this man's brothers?” He said: “Yes, and had he been with them, I would have killed him, because they brought the Khārijī into your city, raised him upon your pulpit, and invalidated your call.” So he pardoned him, and appointed him over al-Mawṣil, while al-Ḥasan b. Mūsā al-Ashyab was its judge.
