Translation

✧ The Franks' taking of the city of Tudela in al-Andalus In this year the Franks took the city of Tudela in al-Andalus. The reason for that was that al-Hakam, the lord of al-Andalus, appointed over the frontiers of al-Andalus a great commander from among his soldiers, whose name was ʿAmrūs b. Yūsuf, and he appointed his son Yūsuf over Tudela. A household from al-Andalus, possessors of strength and might, had fled from al-Hakam because they had rebelled against his obedience, and they joined the polytheists. Their affair grew strong, their power became intense, and they advanced to the city of Tudela, besieged it, and took it from the Muslims. They captured its governor, Yūsuf b. ʿAmrūs, and imprisoned him at Ṣakhrat Qays. ʿAmrūs b. Yūsuf established himself in the city of Saraqusta to protect it from the infidels. He gathered the armies and sent them with a paternal cousin of his. He met the polytheists and fought them, dispersed their gathering, routed them, and killed most of them. The rest escaped, afflicted. The army marched to Ṣakhrat Qays, besieged it, and conquered it. The polytheists were unable to defend it from them because of the weakness that had befallen them through the defeat. When the Muslims conquered it, they freed Yūsuf b. ʿAmrūs, the commander of the frontier, and sent him to his father. ʿAmrūs's affair became great in the eyes of the polytheists, his renown spread far among them, and he remained in the frontier as its commander.
