غَزْوِ الرُّومِ وَفِي سنة سبع وثمانين ومائة دَخَلَ الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ الرَّشِيدِ أَرْضَ الرُّومِ فِي شَعْبَانَ، فَأَنَاخَ عَلَى قُرَّةَ، وَحَصَرَهَا، وَوَجَّهَ الْعَبَّاسَ بْنَ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْأَشْعَثِ، فَحَصَرَ حِصْنَ سِنَانٍ، حَتَّى جَهِدَ أَهْلُهَا، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ الرُّومُ ثَلَاثَمِائَةٍ وَعِشْرِينَ أَسِيرًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى أَنْ يَرْحَلَ عَنْهُمْ، فَأَجَابَهُمْ وَرَحَلَ عَنْهُمْ صُلْحًا. وَمَاتَ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عِيسَى فِي هَذِهِ الْغَزَاةِ بِأَرْضِ الرُّومِ. وَكَانَ يَمْلِكُ الرُّومَ حِينَئِذٍ امْرَأَةٌ اسْمُهَا رِينِي، فَخَلَعَتْهَا الرُّومُ وَمَلَّكَتْ نِقْفُورَ، وَتَزْعُمُ الرُّومُ أَنَّهُ مِنْ أَوْلَادِ جَفْنَةَ بْنِ غَسَّانَ، وَكَانَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَمْلِكَ يَلِي دِيوَانَ الْخَرَاجِ، وَمَاتَتْ رِينِي بَعْدَ خَمْسَةِ أَشْهُرٍ مِنْ خَلْعِهَا.
Translation
✧ The raid on the Byzantines In the year one hundred and eighty-seven AH, al-Qāsim b. al-Rashīd entered the land of the Byzantines in Shaʿbān, and encamped before Qurra, and besieged it, and he dispatched al-ʿAbbās b. Jaʿfar b. Muḥammad b. al-Ashʿath, who besieged the fortress of Sinān, until its people were hard pressed; then the Byzantines sent to him three hundred and twenty Muslim prisoners on condition that he withdraw from them, and he accepted their offer and withdrew from them by peace agreement. ʿAlī b. ʿĪsā died during this raid in the land of the Byzantines. At that time the Byzantines were ruled by a woman named Rīnī, whom the Byzantines deposed and appointed Niqfūr as king; the Byzantines claimed that he was one of the descendants of Jafna b. Ghassān. Before he became king, he had been in charge of the land-tax bureau. Rīnī died five months after her deposition.
