الْفِتْنَةِ بِمِصْرَ وفي سَنَةُ ثَمَانٍ وَسَبْعِينَ وَمِائَةٍ وَثَبَتَ طَائِفَةٌ مِنَ الْحُوفِيَّةِ مِنْ قَيْسٍ وَقُضَاعَةَ بِعَامِلِ مِصْرَ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، فَقَاتَلُوهُ وَجَرَتْ بِهَا فِتْنَةٌ عَظِيمَةٌ، فَبَعَثَ الرَّشِيدُ هَرْثَمَةَ بْنَ أَعْيَنَ نَائِبَ فِلَسْطِينَ فِي خَلْقٍ مِنَ الْأُمَرَاءِ مَدَدًا لِإِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، فَقَاتَلُوهُمْ حَتَّى أَذْعَنُوا بِالطَّاعَةِ، وَأَدَّوْا مَا عَلَيْهِمْ مِنَ الْخَرَاجِ وَالْوَظَائِفِ، وَاسْتَمَرَّ هَرْثَمَةُ نَائِبًا عَلَى مِصْرَ نَحْوًا مِنْ شَهْرٍ عِوَضًا عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، ثُمَّ عَزَلَهُ عَنْهَا، وَوَلَّى عَلَيْهَا عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ صَالِحٍ
Translation
✧ The strife in Egypt. In the year one hundred and seventy-eight AH, a faction of the Ḥūfīs from Qays and Quḍāʿa rose against the governor of Egypt, Isḥāq b. Sulaymān, and fought him, and a great strife occurred there. So al-Rashīd sent Harthama b. Aʿyan, the deputy of Palestine, along with a host of commanders as reinforcement for Isḥāq b. Sulaymān. They fought them until they submitted to obedience and paid what was due upon them of the land tax and imposts. Harthama continued as deputy over Egypt for about a month in place of Isḥāq b. Sulaymān; then he removed him from it and appointed over it ʿAbd al-Malik b. Ṣāliḥ.
